Success story
Your support could help pets like Hope and Chance.
Scared, in pain and all alone, puppies Hope and Chance were left in a box beside a road with devastating facial injuries.
They arrived at our Thirsk rehoming centre in North Yorkshire in October last year, lucky to be alive after being found by a passerby in a heartbreaking state, aged just six weeks old.
Joe Cummins, Assistant Manager, says: “They were found with their littermate covered with sawdust in a box, and taken straight to the vets. Sadly, the third puppy didn't survive due to the severity of their injuries. The vet suspects they were attacked by another animal and subsequently abandoned by the breeder as they were considered unsellable. But we’ll never know for sure.”
The puppies received urgent vet care, including wound cleaning, pain relief and antibiotics to prevent infection. Then they came to Blue Cross, where we named them Hope and Chance – a nod to their remarkable resilience.
Hope and Chance were quickly placed in an experienced foster home with a local retired couple – and thrived.
After an online adoption appeal, we were inundated with applications offering them new homes – as well as an outpouring of love and support from our incredible community.
Hope and Chance – now called Vinnie – soon got the second shot at life they deserved and, in return, have completed their new families.
